Action Wellness is one of Pennsylvania’s largest AIDS service organizations, committed to helping people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. Its services include: medical case management, a range of health screenings including HIV testing, treatment as prevention, prevention education, supportive housing, and volunteer services.
An estimated 30,000 of those living with HIV reside in the Greater Philadelphia Region (Philadelphia Department of Health). Philadelphians are being infected at a rate five times the national average, and roughly 20% of local residents infected with HIV are unaware of their condition (AIDS Fund Philly).
Dining Out For Life – was founded in Philadelphia in 1991 by Action Wellness (known then as ActionAIDS) to raise money to support those living with HIV and AIDS. Dining Out For Life is now replicated in over 60 cities across the United States and Canada and continues to provide life saving support for those living with the disease.
Through the simple act of dining out, the event collectively raises over $4 million every year for HIV/AIDs service organizations. To assist Action Wellness and other local support groups, eat at your favorite participating restaurant on April 19, and the restaurant will donate 33% of your food bill back to the organizations.
