BCOC Offers Free Income Tax Filing Assistance Program Beginning Jan. 20
Beginning Jan. 20, the Bucks County Opportunity Council (BCOC) will start accepting appointments for VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The council will offer free income tax filing assistance through VITA for low-income Bucks County residents.
IRS-certified volunteers will be available to help qualified residents prepare their federal income tax returns for the 2024 tax year through April 15. Volunteers will be available in Bristol, Newtown, Quakertown, and Warminster. Individuals and families with a combined income of $64,000 or less may be eligible for the program.
Appointments are required and are now available for scheduling. Individuals can visit the VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – Bucks County Opportunity Council’s website to request an appointment. For questions, contact Danielle Bush, volunteer and community connections manager, by email or phone at 215-345-8175, ext. 209.
Individuals receiving income tax filing assistance will need to bring several required documents with them to their appointment, including photo identification, Social Security cards, wage and earning statements from all employers, and interest and dividend statements from banks. For married couples filing a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
According to the BCOC website, VITA volunteers prepared more than 1,400 tax returns for eligible tax filers in 2024, offering an estimated $2.2 million in tax services, including refunds, saved filing fees, credits, property tax, and rent rebates.
