University of Delaware Resorts to Bribery. Sort of…
There is big money to be made in college football. At least for one student at University of Delaware. The school is throwing down the gauntlet when it comes to attendance at their football games.
This week, the University of Delaware athletics department unveiled what they are calling the “Cockpit HENergy Challenge,” a new high-stakes contest to incentivize football game attendance. Here’s how it works: At the end of the season, one UD student who attended all six home football games will be randomly chosen to win $10,000 in financial aid.
That sure beats working 40 hours a week at the campus book store! According to a conversation with Delaware Online, Nick LaMarca, who oversees marketing and engagement for the UD athletics department says “Student engagement is really important to us and it’s important to the program, in terms of the support and stance and making that atmosphere on gameday feel really positive, not just for the team, but for the students as well,”
If you were wondering, the money comes from the athletics department specifically, not the university overall.
