Landmark Pennsylvania Restaurant Closes After 4 Decades
Running a local business can be a difficult thing, so it’s common to see local businesses pop up and shut down on any given day. Lately, there have been a lot of heartbreaking Northeast and Pennsylvania restaurant closings. Hopefully, just as many wonderful local Northeast restaurants are opening up, but right now, we’re going to honor one of these popular regional restaurants that has closed for good.
Pennsylvania Restaurant Closes
After nearly 40 years in business, the Chart House will close for good on Nov. 30. The restaurant, which has been open for 38 years, is located at 555 South Christopher Columbus Boulevard on a Delaware River pier near the southern side of Penn’s Landing.
So, why is the Chart House closing? The Chart House’s parent company is Landry. In a statement, Landry’s chief operating officer Shah Ghani cited nearby construction the reason for the closure.
“After an incredible 38 years, Chart House Philadelphia is closing its doors on Nov. 30, 2024 due to the major construction in the area that has cut off visibility and access for our customers to the restaurant,” Ghani said.
He added that company was trying to relocate employees to other Chart House locations. The closest locations to Philadelphia are set up in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Annapolis, Maryland; Weehawken, New Jersey and Alexandria, Virginia. Landry’s brands also include Del Frisco’s and McCormick & Schmick’s.
“We are immensely grateful to the community, our loyal guests and the dedicated team members who have made these nearly four decades so memorable,” Ghani said.
What’s cool is that the New Jersey location of Chart House, was named one of the most beautiful restaurants in America by Lovefood. It ranked No. 7 on their tally of the most beautiful restaurants in the country.
“New York City has plenty of beautiful restaurants with incredible views. But the best way to look at the Manhattan skyline is from a distance, and the tables at this sleek spot have views of the city that few can rival,” they stated. “Chart House, which specializes in posh surf ‘n’ turf, overlooks the Hudson River with enormous windows filled with views of those gleaming skyscrapers over the water.”
That study named the Marine Room in La Jolla, California, the most beautiful restaurant in America. Of the spot, they wrote, “At high tide, the water comes so close to the huge picture windows of The Marine Room that it can feel like you’re dining on a boat.”
