Pennsylvania Destination Named No. 2 Best for Fall Colors
If you love leaf peeping and live in Pennsylvania, then you might be thrilled to find out that one Pennsylvania destination has been named the best for fall colors in America by experts. It’s pretty awesome to think that you don’t have to go far to see the most glorious display of fall colors in the country. Note that according to the weather experts at the Weather Channel, fall foliage in northern Pennsylvania to upstate New York and northern New England starts in late September and early October. A general rule of thumb for when to expect fall foliage is that the warmer the climate, the later the leaves change color. In turn, in the colder parts of the U.S., such as northern Michigan, the leaves change color sooner.
Pennsylvania Destination Has the Best Fall Colors
The experts at USA Today have a new 10 Best poll out, where readers and experts together have determined the best places to see fall colors in America. “It’s that time of year when Mother Nature is gearing up for her annual spectacle of fall color,” they state. “And what better way to enjoy it than leaf peeping?”
If you’re wondering, the No. 1 spot on the list is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. “With around seven million acres of forest abutting the shores of three different Great Lakes, changing leaves are the main event each fall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,” they note in the article about fall colors. I’m really not surprised to see Michigan top the roster, because the state has such gorgeous colors here.
What’s amazing is that one Pennsylvania destination is No. 2 on their tally, with USA Today naming Laurel Highlands the best spot. “Autumn colors peak in this region of the Allegheny Mountains around mid-October, making for a stunning show,” the experts at USA Today note of the Pennsylvania destination. “The plethora of hiking and biking trails, including a portion of the Great Allegheny Passage, mean it’s easy to explore the highlands during the height of the season.” Several fall festivals add to the welcoming vibes in this region each October.”
