Snow or Heat? Here’s the 3-Month Pennsylvania Weather Forecast
We’ve made it to that final stretch of winter in Pennsylvania. Although, aside from a few January storms, it didn’t feel much like winter across the United States this year. Not that I’m complaining. I’d be happy to live in a climate with no snow and ice all year long. But, the good news is that spring is coming up in about a month. So, we just have to get through these last few weeks of winter. What’s even better is that the three-month Pennsylvania weather forecast is promising.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center (CPC) releases maps showing the probability of temperatures and precipitation being above or below normal conditions. As they explain on their website, “The CPC also makes available versions of these outlooks giving temperature (degrees Fahrenheit) and precipitation (inches) for the lower 48 states by climate regions (Probability of Exceedence), analysis and outlooks of tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures (SSTs) which indicate El Niño or La Niña episodes, and skill scores of the CPC outlooks.” I always look at the three-month forecasts, as they show a general trend for the next quarter of the year, in terms of above or below normal temperatures and precipitation. Their latest forecast is for February, March and April 2024.
So, let’s get into Pennsylvania. The three-month outlook gives most of Pennsylvania a “likely above” temperature forecast. Most of the state has a 50% to 60% chance of having above normal temperatures. The very lower part of the state has a “leaning above” temperature forecast. As for precipitation, most of Pennsylvania has equal chances of having above or below normal precipitation. The very southeast part of the state has a “leaving above” chance of more precipitation, while the very northwest part of the state has a “leaning below” chance.
