Lane Johnson Is The Eagles Nominee For Walter Payton Man Of The Year
Lane Johnson is not just excelling on the field but off of it. The Eagles have announced that Lane is their nominee this season for the Walter Payton Man of the Year.
Here is the statement Lane Johnson made about receiving the honor:
“I’m incredibly honored to be named the Eagles’ Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year alongside an inspiring group of men who are making a difference in their communities. I’ve been fortunate to spend my entire career playing for an organization and city that has embraced me at my best, but more importantly, supported me and helped me through some of my darkest moments. Playing this game has always been a passion of mine, but being able to share my mental health journey through the platform football has given me has been a rewarding experience. I’m grateful to have had a strong support system, and my hope is to support others who are suffering in silence by opening doors for them to feel comfortable enough sharing their stories.”
We all know the great work Lane does on the field. Before this season, he had been on a multi-year streak of giving up no sacks. That finally ended this season as he is playing through some injuries. But even with those injuries, he has still been a dominant force. And we saw that on Sunday as he battled with Nick Bosa.
But what maybe does not get enough credit is the work Lane does off the field. As he has battled his own issues with anxiety, he has done hard work to spread awareness and help people going through the same thing. A lot of times just being open and honest about your own struggles can help others open up and seek help. And since opening up about his anxiety disorder back in 2021, when it caused him to miss 3 games, Lane has done a lot of great work to raise awareness for the issue.
But that is not the only charity work he has done. There is also his Christmas Album, along with Jason Kelce and Jordan Mailata, that has raised millions for local charities.
All 32 teams nominate a player, and then the winner of the award will be selected in the lead-up to the Super Bowl. In the past, 3 Eagles players have won the Award. Chris Long in 2018, Troy Vincent in 2002, and Harold Carmichael in 1980.
