Jalen Hurts Contract Rumblings
The 2023 NFL offseason is going strong, and there has been plenty of excitement. Now, the Eagles are coming up on contract negotiations with Jalen Hurts. They’ll be paying a pretty penny to make him the Eagles’ quarterback for many years.
Accorind to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Eagles have already had “initial conversations” with Hurts regarding his contract extension. Graziano dropped the news on SportsCenter via (Bleacherreport.com).
“He was a second-round pick, so they do not hold a fifth-year option on him for 2024, so there’s a little more urgency with his negotiations than there is with some of these other guys,” Graziano said. “I’m told there have been initial conversations, and I would expect the Eagles and Jalen Hurts to find a path to a contract extension at some point this offseason.”
Hurts did it all (almost) in 2022, taking the Eagles (14-3) to the Super Bowl and snagging Pro Bowl, All-Pro and MVP nominations. He has one year left on his rookie deal. The Eagles are looking to put together a new contract that will benefit all involved.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman hasn’t made a secret of how he’s like to lock Hurts into a lengthy contract. Earlier this year, he said (via CBS), “Obviously, we want to keep our best players here from the long term and he’s certainly one of our best players,” Roseman said. “We’ll keep all the contract talks internal, but we have a good sense of what we need to do here. We have a little bit of time here too to try to figure it out and get away and discuss that, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is keeping our best players here and Jalen is certainly one of our best players.”
