Eagles Fall Short To Chiefs In Super Bowl
It was a great season, with an ugly ending. The Chiefs high powered offense was just too much for the Eagles to handle. Jalen Hurts played out of his mind. But the Eagles got precisely 0 stops in the second half, letting the Chiefs come back to win it. This is an Eagles team set up to be good for a while. But that won’t keep this one from hurting. We will remember the way they fell short to the Chiefs for a while.
The shame of it is, it was a waste of an MVP performance by Jalen Hurts. 4 total TDs, 3 with his legs, plus a late 2pt conversation to tie it up. Maybe if he got one last chance he would have had even more magic up his sleeves too. So many big-time throws when the Eagles needed it most. He balled out. But his defense let him down. After being so good all year, the Eagles’ defense cost them this game. The team that led the league in sacks, and came close to setting the record, got 0 sacks. The team that was near the top in takeaways, forced none. And the team that gave up the 2nd least points of the season gave up 38.
The story for the next week, other than the bad play of the defense, will be a very weak holding call on James Bradberry. It is not the reason the Eagles lost. But it was still a horrible decision by the ref. Bradberry barely touched the WR. But the flag was thrown. And if the defense made stops earlier in that drive it would not have come down to that.
They come up short. It is a loss that will hurt for a long time. They could have won this game. They should have won this game. When your QB balls out like that, you need to win. But the defense just couldn’t get it done. Too many wide-open players, too many missed tackles, and too few plays made. It was an awesome season. But the ending sucked.
The good news is they have a franchise QB. They can get back here. But that won’t make these next few weeks hurt less. Watching the Phillies, the Union, and the Eagles all make it to the final game, just to blow it, is not something any of us will get over anytime soon. Our teams keep falling short when it matters most. And this Eagles’ loss, with how great they played all season, will hurt the most.
