New Mask Mandate for Philadelphia Businesses & Customers
Wednesday, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced Philadelphia businesses must require masks or proof of vaccination from both employees and customers starting August 12.

Beginning tomorrow, masks will be required indoors at all businesses and institutions that do not require vaccination for entry and at non-seated outdoor events with 1,000+ attendees. pic.twitter.com/Ci5qIc6hqY
Non seated outdoor events with 1,000 or more attendees will also require a mask.
Starting September 1, the City will also be instituting the following new policies:
- All City employees will be required to provide proof that they’ve completed their schedule of COVID-19 vaccinations,
- New employees hired must be fully vaccinated a a condition of their employment, and
- Employees who are not fully vaccinated by September 1 will be required to wear two masks (a cloth mask over a disposable or surgical mask) at all times while working on-site.
