A list of the world’s happiest songs. Just what we need to brighten our moods in middle of winter.
A music psychologist in the UK has a formula for determining the happiest songs. Dr. Michael Bonshor, who has a PhD in music psychology, believes that the happiest songs tend to have about 137 beats per minute. They also use bright sounding instruments like trumpets and guitar riffs. They will have recognizable and memorable melodies. Their beats are dance-able, and a few other criteria. Happy songs also tend to get to the point quickly, with short intros instead of dragging out the beginning of the song.
There’s even a song that was created specifically using this formula. It’s called “The Lighter Note.” Check it out HERE. (To be honest, it’s not bad.) Snappy and upbeat, and commissioned by Müllerlight using Dr. Bonshor’s formula. While it doesn’t have any lyrics, it IS pleasant, and seems to check all of Dr. Bonshor’s boxes to make a happy song.
Now think about the songs that make you happiest. Do they fit the mold? They may even be on his list (below)!
Dr. Bonshor came up with a list of songs he believes make people happy, based on these factors. According to his list, the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” meets all of these factors and more. Want to know for sure? Listen to “Good Vibrations” next time you need a boost.
Other tracks that make the list:
P!nk “Get the Party Started”, Billy Joel “Uptown Girl”, and a number of other hits you hear every day on BEN FM. No wonder BEN FM makes everyone so happy!
