No Septa Key Card for All in Your Group? Introducing SEPTA Key Tix
SEPTA Key TIX. SEPTA’s new way for occasional riders to pay their fare.
If you ride SEPTA regularly, you’ve had this happen. You’ve got a SEPTA Key Card, but someone you’re with doesn’t. Maybe it’s family visiting, maybe a group of friends from the suburbs. You all want to take SEPTA to the Flower Show or Reading Terminal Market, or the Mummers Parade – and EVERYONE had to buy a Septa Key Card and pay the fee.
Not anymore. SEPTA just launched a pilot program that will let you buy tickets for one or more people using a smart phone. They’re calling it SEPTA Key Tix. You can use it with the SEPTA mobile app.
For now, use it to board buses, trolleys, the Broad Street Line, Market-Frankford Line, and Norristown High Speed Line. In the coming year, SEPTA plans to expand the program to the Regional Rail too.
The program works by allowing a rider to use a credit or debit card (but not Travel Wallet) to download a QR-code “ticket” that can be read at the fareboxes and turnstiles.
Groups of riders traveing together can scan once and pay fares for up to 5 people using a single barcode. Awesome.
But what about SEPTA Key Cards? Do we still need those?
Yes. The new SEPTA Key Tix program is for occasional riders without a SEPTA Key card that want to enjoy the same benefits as cardholders – including a $2 fare and one free transfer per transit trip.
Check HERE, or download the SEPTA app for more information, and to use the new SEPTA Key Tix program when you need it. The app is pretty nice to have anyway. I love using it to track when the next bus or train is headed to my stop. They have it down to the minute!
