Judy McLane stars in COMPANY, and I had a chance to speak with her about the show.

The Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s and George Furth’s COMPANY opens at the Forrest Theatre tonight. COMPANY is here from November 28th through December 10th, and this revival is a totally new take on the show. The winner of five 2022 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, and it’s making its premiere in Philadelphia on this run.

This revival of the show is the final production of Sondheim’s work that the composer saw to fruition before he passed at 91. The show is from the 70's, but Sondheim and Elliott collaborated to update Company, and bring the story into the 21st century. There's a very big change in the role of Bobbie too, changing the character from male to female.

So what’s the show about?

“At Bobbie’s 35th birthday party, all her friends are wondering why isn’t she married? Why can’t she find the right man? And, why can’t she settle down and have a family? This musical comedy now features a modern-day Manhattan, but some of Sondheim’s best loved classic songs. Enjoy “Company,” “You Could Drive a Person Crazy,” “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “Side by Side,” and the iconic “Being Alive” among others.

Judy McLane stars in COMPANY as the character Joanne. I had a chance to chat with Judy, who had lots to say about this revival, her life in theater, and we even talked a bit about her workout routine (she’s SUPER fit). You may recognizer her too if you went to see Mamma Mia! on Broadway any time in the 2,000’s basically. She starred in the Broadway production of Mamma Mia! as Donna and Tanya, and was the the longest running lead in Mamma Mia! history. She starred in over 4000 performances! Mamma Mia indeed!
