Pennsylvania Teen Named TIME’s Kid of the Year, Plans To Give 200 Bikes
TIME Magazine picked 15-year-old Dom Pecora from Malvern, Pennsylvania, as their 2024 Kid of the Year. The bike repair expert wants to give away 200 bicycles this winter to kids who love riding as much as he does.
Starting at age 10, Dom took his first steps. He posted online and raised $3,000 to buy his first mountain bike. After that first successful fundraiser, Dom knew he wanted to help more kids get on bikes.
His business, Dom Fixes Bikes, made last Christmas special by giving bikes to over 100 kids. This year, Nemours Children’s Hospital stepped up to help out. While Dom takes care of the bikes, the hospital will give out 200 safety helmets at the event and keep providing helmets through next year.
Dom’s bike giveaway is open to any kid who loves to ride. It doesn’t matter how much money their family has — he’s helping twice as many kids as last year. “The mission is to give [a bike to] anyone who is passionate about riding regardless of age, race, gender or financial ability,” Dom said.
Families can now sign up through domfixesbikes.com. The giveaway starts next month, right before the holidays. What began as a simple idea turned into something much bigger.
