Philadelphia Couple Get Guinness Record for Oldest Newlyweds
Marjorie Fiterman, 102, and Bernie Littman, 100, have been recognized as the world’s oldest couple to marry (aggregate age). According to Guinness World Records, their combined ages would be 202 years and 271 days.
Fiterman and Littman got married on May 19, 2024, after a relationship that lasted nine years. Both are widows, having been married for more than 60 years before their partners passed away.
“The pair bonded by sharing meals and participating in their retirement community’s productions,” their account in the Guinness World Records notes. “Bernie credits his long life and happiness to reading and staying up-to-date, and Marjorie credits hers to buttermilk.”
Both newlyweds attended the University of Pennsylvania at the same time. She studied to become a teacher, and he studied to become an engineer.
The Guinness World Records tells how Fiterman and Littman connected at a costume party hosted by their senior living facility. “Bernie hit it off immediately with Marjorie … and the romance began shortly after. They had their first date on the same day one of his great-granddaughters was born.”
In announcing their nuptials, Littman’s granddaughter Sarah Sicherman told The Jewish Chronicle, “With so much sadness [and] fear in the world, it’s nice to be able to share something that brings people joy.” She added that her grandfather and his bride were “so lucky to have found each other and be a support to each other, especially during the pandemic.” The family was “thrilled” Littman had found his beloved in Fiterman.
