Pennsylvania Town Named One of the Snowiest on the Planet
If you think it snows a lot where you live in the Northeast, then you’re right, because one Pennsylvania town has been named one of the snowiest in the entire world. That’s a pretty wild statement, since plenty of places around the world get a lot of snow, but the experts say this one Michigan spot is among the snowiest. If you’re not a fan of snow, you’ll want to stay away from this place, but if you love snow and skiing, then start making plans to make a trip there this winter.
Pennsylvania Town Named One of the World’s Snowiest
The experts at Trip Savvy have put together a tally of the top 10 snowiest cities in the world. Before we get to this state, let’s look at the city with the No. 1 most snow in the world. According to Trip Savvy, it’s Syracuse, New York, which has an average annual snowfall of 124 inches. “Records show that the city occasionally experiences heavy snowfall, with an all-time high of 192 inches in a single season,” they note. “Statistics like these cement Syracuseâs status as the snowiest metropolitan area in the United States, a claim made possible by a combination of different geological factors: the cityâs proximity to Lake Ontario and the regular dumping of snow by nor’easter cyclones.”
If you’ve ever wondered what creates snow, National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service states that, “Snow is precipitation in the form of ice crystals. It originates in clouds when temperatures are below the freezing point (0 degrees Celsius, or 32 degrees Fahrenheit), when water vapor in the atmosphere condenses directly into ice without going through the liquid stage.” The National Now and Ice Data Center adds that, “Snow is precipitation that forms when water vapor freezes. It is not frozen rain, but a crystallization of ice that typically forms in clouds.”
So, which Pennsylvania town has been crowned one of the snowiest in the world? Erie, Pennsylvania, is that snowy town. According to the study, Erie gets an average of 57 days of snow each year and an average annual snowfall of 104 inches. That’s a lot of the white stuff. Trip Savvy also notes that Erie’s temperatures in the winter months are an average of 18 degrees F. Aside from the snow, Erie, they add, is a cool town, stating, “The city boasts an acclaimed wine country, extensive maritime history, plenty of beaches, and two beloved state parks, Presque Isle and Erie Bluffs, that are perfect for summer fun.”
