Go-Go’s Rock Hall Induction Featured Drew Barrymore’s Spa Routine
Drew Barrymore, in all her bubbly effervescence, inducted The Go-Go’s into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and unabashedly wore her fandom around her body, on her head… and smeared on her face.
During her speech, Barrymore proclaimed her love for the all-women band saying, “Beauty and the Beat blew the doors of my life off…It was always a party for guys for so long, but these girls were crashing it.”
Barrymore then took things further and recreated the Go-Go’s cover of Beauty and the Beat by wrapping a towel around her body and on her head. (When her towel fell off her head, she quipped, “That’s why I like movies. There’s a take two.”)
To cap it off, Barrymore took a white facial mask and applied it to her face all while the crowd at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse roared with approval and applause.
“Now my childhood fantasy is fulfilled, ” said Barrymore after her mini-spa routine.
After a video package, the Go-Go’s performed a tight three-song set of “Vacation,” “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got The Beat.” It was the first time during the 2021 Rock Hall induction ceremony that a large portion of the crowd leaped to their feet and were dancing and clapping along. It was truly a concert moment and not a ceremony moment.
Each Go-Go’s member made brief, and often funny, remarks in acceptance of their Rock Hall honor. Notably, drummer Gina Shock took her speech time to thank all of the families of The Go-Go’s members, “…Because without them, we’d be f—ed.” Bassist Kathy Valentine took a moment to recognize the lack of women in the Rock Hall saying, “The Go-Go’s will be advocating for more women [in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.]…There would not be less of us if more of us are visible.”
