Multiple Dog Food Brands Have Been Recalled Over Toxin Concerns
The FDA has recently announced that several dog food brands have been recalled over concerns about toxins.
According to the FDA’s website, pet food products manufactured by Sunshine Mills under several brand names may contain unsafe levels of Aflatoxin. They state, “Aflatoxin is a toxin produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus, which can grow on corn and other grains used as ingredients in pet food. At high levels, aflatoxin can cause illness and death in pets.”
Symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning include sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice, and diarrhea. They add that no evidence proves that humans can get aflatoxin poisoning from handling food. But just to be on the safe side, they recommend washing your hands after handling pet food.
Over thirty brands of food are affected by the recall. Some include Paws Happy Life Nutritionally Complete Dog Food, Family Pet Meaty Cuts Beef, Chicken & Cheese Premium Dog Food, Heartland Farms Grilled Favorites Beef Chicken & Cheese Flavor Dog Food, Field Trial Complete Nutrition Premium Dog Food, and Whiskers & Tails Adult Recipe Complete Dog Food.
The FDA website lists all the food brands, their lot codes, and the dates they were distributed. See the full list on the website.
