Media Film Festival to Screen 29 Independent Films During Two Spring Weekends
Discover the world of independent short films during the 18th annual Media Film Festival across two spring weekends, March 28-29 and April 4-5. Twenty-nine independent short films will be screened at four venues throughout downtown Media.
Film screenings on opening night, Friday, March 28, will take place at The Towne House. On Saturday, March 29, the Sligo Irish Pub will be the venue for a delightful mix of international and regional film presentations. Both evenings will offer guests a movie tavern film experience that will allow attendees to order food and beverages before and during the performance. Each night of the festival will feature five short films that cover a variety of genres, such as animation, comedies, dramas, thrillers, and more.
On Friday, April 4, the festival moves to the Delaware County Institute of Science for a documentary night showcasing short films from three Pennsylvania filmmakers. The lineup includes a documentary about the largest trash incinerator in the United States in Chester. The others cover the story of a Villanova professor who cultivates plants in Martian soil and an investigation into conditions for garment workers in the Adidas supply chain.
The festival will conclude on Saturday, April 5, at the historic Media Theatre. That afternoon, it will feature a “Best of Local” block with student films from the Media Arts Council’s filmmaking program, followed by “Best of the Festival” films, awards, and an after-show meet-and-greet with the filmmakers.
“The festival showcases creative spirit and strives to elevate the quality of local filmmaking,” Media Arts Council Artistic Director Jeff Thomas said in a statement provided to the Daily Times. “More than just a film showcase, it’s about connecting filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences while having fun doing it!”
