In a statement about the documentary, Brian Wilson said, “I’m super happy with the way the documentary turned out, they did an amazing job. It really brought me back to those days with the boys, the fun and the music. And of course those incredible harmonies.”
The Beach Boys premieres on Disney+ on May 24.
Brian Wilson and His Health
In February, it was revealed that Brian Wilson was being placed under a conservatorship due to being diagnosed with dementia.
The Wilson Family issued a statement that offered details about the legendary musician’s conservatorship. It states that LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers, who have been longtime reps for the family, will serves as Wilson’s co-conservators. The statement also notes this decision was pre-determined by Brian and Melinda Wilson.
The Wilson Family statement also notes, “Brian will be able to enjoy all of his family and friends and continue to work on current projects as well as participate in any activities he chooses.”
This news comes after the death of Melinda Wilson on Jan. 30. Brian and Melinda Wilson were married for 28 years.
Following her death, Brian issued a statement honoring his late wife. He wrote, in part, “Our five children and I are just in tears. We are lost. Melinda was more than my wife. She was my savior. She gave me the emotional security I needed to have a career.”
He added, “She encouraged me to make the music that was closest to my heart. She was my anchor. She was everything for us. Please say a prayer for her.”
Love & Mercy
Brian and Melinda Wilson’s relationship was immortalized in the 2015 biopic Love & Mercy. The two famously met at a Cadillac dealership where Melina was a salesperson, which is shown in the biopic’s trailer below. At that time, Brian was under the care of Dr. Eugene Landy. Landy was a psychotherapist whose care of the singer-songwriter became more and more controlling as treatment continued.
In 1992, Brian and Melinda Wilson petitioned a court to remove Landy from Brian’s personal and professional affairs. Once Landy was ordered never to contact him again, Brian married Melinda in 1995. The couple adopted five children together.
