The film stars Cynthia Erivo*, who is nominated for two Academy Awards this year for Harriet: Best Actress for her portrayal of Harriet Tubman, and also Best Original Song, along with Joshuah Brian Campbell for “Stand Up” from the Harriet soundtrack.
I am a HUGE fan of Cynthia Erivo. I saw her perform the lead in The Color Purple on Broadway, and was actually brought to tears by her performance and especially her voice. She’s incredible. I loved the show so much that I bought tickets for my entire family to go see it. Unfortunately we all got there to the theater in NYC and they announced that her understudy was performing that day in her place. Womp womp. Still a great show. BTW – The Color Purple film will be back in theaters for its 35th Anniversary for one day only on February 23rd. Find tickets HERE.
