Buckingham, McVie on What’s Next for Fleetwood Mac
Now that Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie are on the road for a short tour supporting their new duo album, attention is turning to what the band might do next.
There’s been no new Fleetwood Mac music since an EP in 2013, and nothing from the group’s “classic” line-up since Tango In The Night in 1987 — though the Buckingham/McVie album comes close since Mick Fleetwood and John McVie play on it.
But McVie tells us that she hopes the Mac will regroup at some point to create new material:
“Well, I certainly think it’s a good idea. I think it would be nice to cut a couple of new ones. We’ll just have to wait and see. I mean, Lindsey’s got a solo project coming out after all this with me, so I don’t quite know what he’s planning to do with that…But we’re planning to start rehearsing sometime, you know, in the spring of next year with the Mac, and, yeah, I think it would be great to cough up some new material.”
Buckingham adds that at this juncture fans know that nothing works quickly in Fleetwood Mac’s world:
“I think the earliest anyone expected to be back on the road with Fleetwood Mac might’ve been spring of 2018…Stevie, my understanding is that she’s all ready. I think she’s gonna go to Australia for a couple of weeks but my understanding is that she was ready and now, y’know, because I’ve got this solo album, I’m the one who’s holding it up. But, you know, that’s typical for us. There’s a lot of moving parts so, you know, you gotta wait for everyone to be ready.”
Buckingham and McVie will be on the road through July 27, while Fleetwood Mac will play two shows this summer as part of The Classic festival, on July 16 in Los Angeles and July 30 in New York.
