The 2023 Grammy Awards kicked off with the Premiere Ceremony, as with previous years. During the Premiere Ceremony, fans saw all six rock/metal/alternative categories presented.

The categories comprised a diverse field of seasoned acts and some newer names in the rock landscape. Below are all of the rock/metal/alternative winners, along with the winners of the general field categories. (Winners are updated in real-time.)

The 2023 Grammy Awards air live on CBS on Sunday, February 5 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

  • Best Rock Performance

    Beck – “Old Man”
    The Black Keys – “Wild Child”
    Brandi Carlile – “Broken Horses” – WINNER
    Bryan Adams – “So Happy It Hurts”
    Idles – “Crawl!”
    Ozzy Osbourne Featuring Jeff Beck – “Patient Number 9”

    Carlile appeared thrilled and shocked to win the Grammy for Best Rock Performance with her bandmates Phil and Tim Hanseroth. She said in her acceptance speech, “I cannot tell you how much this means to us. We’re born and raised in Seattle. When I met these guys 22 years ago, we decided to get in a van and be a band together.” Carlile added, “I met them, and they were covered in Ramones tattoos, and they had never even played an acoustic guitar. And then this happened!”

    Ozzy Osbourne Featuring Tony Iommi – “Degradation Rules” – WINNER

    Producer Andrew Watt accepted the Grammy along Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, who both played on Ozzy’s latest studio album Patient Number 9. Watt said during his speech, “We had so much fun making this album. We got to unite Ozzy and Tony together and make a great song.” Watt added, “I talked to Ozzy on the car ride over and he had two messages for the people: I love you all, and f— off!”

    Carlile, once again, looked thrilled and shocked to win another Grammy tonight when she won Best Rock Song for “Broken Horses.” The singer-songwriter acknowledged her mother in the crowd saying, “Mom, I gotta thank you for telling me to stop singing so angry, because I ignored that, like I ignored everything you ever told me to do.” She continued, with a laugh, “But I cut my hair, and I learned how to scream, and I just won a Grammy for a rock and roll song I wrote with all my heart.”

    Watt and Trujillo returned to accept the Grammy for Best Rock Album on Ozzy’s behalf. Watt said, “We just want to take a second to thank the unbelievable musicians that helped to make this album. So many people came together for Ozzy: The great Taylor Hawkins, Chad Smith, Robert Trujillo, the great Jeff Beck – the greatest guitar player alive, Josh Homme.” Trujillo then jumped in and continued, “Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.”

    The British Indie rock band looked absolutely floored they won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance. Rhian Teasdale said while holding the award, “This is so funny. Thanks so much. What are we doing here? I don’t know! But here we are.” She continued, “This year has been so surprising, starting this band has been such a surprise.”

  • Best Alternative Music Album

    Arcade Fire – WE
    Big Thief – Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You
    Björk – Fossora
    Wet Leg – Wet Leg – WINNER
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Cool It Down

     

    Wet Leg returned to the stage to accept the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. Once again, the band couldn’t believe what was happening. Henry Holmes said, “This is just a magical evening. There are so many people out there we should thank, and my mind has gone blank. I feel I might wet myself, and it’s all getting a bit much. Thank you to everyone who’s helped us do this.” He added, while pointing to his bandmates, “And thank you to all you guys. We’re one big f—ed up family.”
