11 Free Activities to Do in Philadelphia

Now that the weather is getting nicer we find ourselves looking for ways to spend the day outdoors. The City of Brotherly Love is full of outdoor activities that are completely free. Here’s a list of 11 activities to do in Philadelphia that won’t cost you anything.

  • The Liberty Bell Center

    At The Liberty Bell Center learn about facts and myths surrounding the famous Liberty Bell and don’t forget to take a photo in front of the bell. The Liberty Bell Center is located at 526 Market Street.

  • Independence Hall

    Independence Hall is the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution as is completely free to visit. You will need a ticket to enter and can pick those up at the Independence Visitors Center each day.

  • Rocky Statue & Rocky Steps

    Located outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art the Rocky statue and Rocky steps are two of the most visited places in Philadelphia.  Run up the Rocky steps and take a photo next to the statue all while enjoying the view.

  • LOVE Park

    Check out the iconic LOVE sculpture located in John F. Kennedy Plaza a.k.a LOVE Park.

  • Spruce Street Harbor Park

    On a nice day head over to Spruce Street Harbor Park and enjoy the view of the Delaware River. Hang out in a hammock or play lawn games with your friends all for free. There are food vendors on site if you get hungry as well as a beer garden with food and drinks for purchase.

  • Franklin Square

    Hanging out in Franklin Square is free and there are also free events that occur seasonally. Franklin Square features paid attractions such as a carousel, mini-golf, and a burger joint SquareBurger. For more information click here.

  • Blue Cross RiverRink

    Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest and Winterfest is a great spot to hang out. Featuring a boathouse-style lodge, a play area for kids, food and drink options and special events there is always something to do. For a small fee you can roller skate in the summer and ice skate in the winter.

  • U.S. Mint

    Visit the U.S. Mint to see the process of making our nation’s coins for free. At the U.S. Mint you can also find interactive displays, early coining equipment and rare coins.

  • Science History Institute

    The Science History Institute is a free museum that features rare books, fine art, artifacts and more from science and technology.

  • Penn's Landing

  • Elfreth’s Alley

    Elfreth’s Alley is one of the oldest inhabited streets and a cool place to stroll and take in the history of the 18th century architecture. The homes along Elfreth’s Alley are still occupied but two houses have been turned into a museum you can visit for a small fee.
