Thanksgiving is right around the corner and it can be extremely stressful, especially if you are the host. Here are some tips on things you can get done ahead of time so the big day will be more enjoyable and stress-free.

  • Pick your recipes

There is nothing more frazzling than scrambling in the kitchen to get your Thanksgiving meal ready. If you decide ahead of time what dishes you want to make, you can organize your shopping list, dishes to use, etc.

  • Get your turkey

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is getting your turkey too late. Turkeys tend to sell out quickly so be sure and purchase it or order it early. You can put your turkey in the freezer if you purchase it well before the holiday, just give yourself time to defrost it.

  • Buy all your shelf stable good

If you’ve planned out your recipes in advance you know exactly what you need so why wait, grab those canned goods and non perishables now.

  • Make your pie crust

Pie crusts can be put into the freezer so go ahead and make it early. You can even put a whole ready to bake pie in the freezer too!

  • Order your meal

Cooking not for you? No sweat but to make sure things run smoothly place your order with enough time to make sure the restaurant can accommodate. Even better get your order in now to ensure you don’t miss any deadlines.

  • Locate all your tools and tableware

Have special china you only use for holidays? Looking for that electric knife to carve the turkey? Find everything you will need to cook with and serve now so it’s ready to go ahead of the holiday!

  • Clean up

A big meal means lots of time in the kitchen, starting out in a clean space with an organized fridge and pantry will help immensely when it’s time for the big day.

  • Eye the timeline

With so much to cook having a timeline will help streamline the day. There also may be quite a few things you can get made in advance which will help ease your holiday anxiety and ensure everything gets out on the table on time.
