Peep Sculptures Are Now A Thing
After Easter is over, we always wonder what happens to all of those unwanted Peeps. One way to get rid of the sugary treat is to give them to competitive eater Matt Stonie. However, if he is full, the candy goes to the Carroll County Art Council’s PEEPshow.
This artistic event is held in Westminster, Maryland and challenges creative people to make sculptures out of Peeps. At this year’s events, there was around 151 entries. Some of the pop culture pieces, according to the Huffington Post, including “Belle from ‘Beauty And The Beast’, Pikachu, and even ‘Grumpy Cat’.”
Fans of the hit HBO show, “Game of Thrones” would be impressed by the event’s dragon sculpture. Made out of 7,500 Peeps, it may have been the largest piece at the event.
Every creation that make its way to the PEEPshow is placed in a competition. This past year, they opened voting to the internet. With just a simple payment of $1, people from all over the world were able to review the creations and cast their vote on who they would want to win. All proceeds from the open voting would benefit the Carroll Arts Center.
If you were to win the top prize at the event, you would receive “a giant plush bunny and a visit to the Peeps factory in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania” says the Huffington Post.
After the event is over, a lot of the creations stay on display for quite some time. Spokeswoman for the event, Sandy Oxx stated that “Peeps have a two-year shelf life for eating, but I have some entires in my office that are 10 years old. They get soft when it’s humid and crunchy when it’s dry.”
The event’s creators are hoping to make this an Easter tradition. We can only image that, throughout the years, the sculptures will become even bigger.
