Broadway Star Teal Wicks Talks ‘& Juliet’ Philadelphia Tour Stop
Award Winning Broadway Show & Juliet Headed to Philadelphia
I was fortunate to see & Juliet on Broadway two years ago. Needless to say, when I read what the show was about and whose music is used in the show, I was hooked before I ever saw it. The story is brilliant. It’s about what happens if Juliet (yes of Romeo & Juliet) decides NOT to kill herself. It sounds dark, but trust me, it’s hilarious and genius. Now it’s coming to Philly, and I couldn’t be more excited to talk about.
& Juliet Gives Us All the Hits
It’s called a “jukebox musical,” which means the songs in the show are already well-known tunes. For this show, all the songs are from the genius producer Max Martin. Max is the pop music genius behind literally some of the biggest songs of all time. Think Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and of course, Taylor Swift. The play uses his songs to tell the story, and it’s just so clever.
Conversation with Teal Wicks
Teal Wicks is an American singer and stage actress who is best known for her performances as Elphaba in the Broadway, San Francisco, and Los Angeles productions of the musical Wicked and as Mary Barrie in the musical Finding Neverland. She also starred as Lady in The Cher Show on Broadway for the entirety of its run, from October 2018 to August 2019.
In & Juliet, Teal plays Anne Hathaway (the original), who is William Shakespeare’s wife. Without giving too much away, Anne is responsible for a very big idea in the show.
Check out the awesome interview with Teal, where we talk about what life is like as a Broadway star and what she loves most about being on tour with & Juliet.
