The Best Concert Venues In Philadelphia (In My Opinion)
I’ve been to a lot of concert venues in Philadelphia. I consider myself quite an avid concertgoer. So, I feel, in a sense, qualified to make this rather *ahem* biased list.
The Best Concert Venues in Philadelphia (in my opinion…)
This list is based on my personal experiences at Philly venues, taking into account their vibe, layout, and, most importantly, how much fun I had there. The venues on this list are in no particular order but know that if they’re on here, they’re special. This city has a rich music scene, and these venues add to how great it is.
The Fillmore Philadelphia
29 E Allen St, Philadelphia, PA 19123
This is a clear pick for me. Located in Fishtown, The Fillmore has been host to some of my favorite concert experiences of all time. The four chandeliers glittering above your head as you watch your favorite band provide a somewhat religious concert experience. Not only is it visually stunning, but it also provides the optimal show experience with easily accessible bars, bathrooms, and security. I will let you know as well, I am so bitter that my high school’s rival high school held their prom here.
Union Transfer
1026 Spring Garden St, Philadelphia, PA 19123
Okay, very biased pick. But don’t get me wrong, Union Transfer is a fantastic fantastic venue in pretty much every way. I will say, though, that I have seen my favorite band there twice, so I’m not sure if this is on here in part because of my partiality to said group. I DO know, though, that the venue responded quickly and kindly to the question I submitted in their “contact us” form. I also know that their venue security was kind enough to pass me a water bottle mid-show when I was nearly out for the count, which I appreciate with my entire being.
Franklin Music Hall
421 N 7th St, Philadelphia, PA 19123
However you slice it, Franklin Music Hall is the place to be. It’s laden with history and a genuine cool factor that I think represents Philadelphia’s music scene well. The upstairs portion of the venue, AKA the balcony, is a nice place to snag a (maybe unavailable if already occupied) seat. Bands sound really good in this venue. I’m pretty excited to head back over there soon, as my current obsession artist takes the stage.
Theatre Of The Living Arts
334 South St, Philadelphia, PA 19147
The marquee is iconic. The decor is fantastic. The location is optimal. I mean, what’s not to love? It’s one of the best concert venues in Philadelphia. If you’re thinking about seeing a show here, go see the show here. It’s historically significant to the city and music lovers all the same. The memorabilia hanging on the venue’s dark red walls remind you how legendary the place is. It’s on the smaller side, so it makes for fantastically intimate shows.
Underground Arts
1200 Callowhill St, Philadelphia, PA 19107
When I visited Underground Arts for the first time, I was shocked at how cool it looked in there. I was also shocked at how fun its layout is. It truly is “underground.” You trot down a set of stairs, walls adorned with stickers and graffiti, all lit by blacklight, to a door that is equally decorated. Through it, you will find an intimate venue with a fun bar serving themed cocktails and fun, grungey, eclectic decor. I’ve had a great time every time I’ve visited.
