Doobie Brothers Announce New Album ‘Walk This Road’ with Michael McDonald
The Doobie Brothers announced plans for Walk This Road, their new album coming out June 6. This will be Michael McDonald’s first time recording new material with the band in 45 years.
Pat Simmons teased fans with hints last December, leading up to the band’s official announcement on January 22. Producer John Shanks, known for his work with Bon Jovi and Sheryl Crow, is at the helm. The band finished recording during the winter of 2024.
The new ten-song album brings together bandmates Simmons, Tom Johnston, John McFee, and McDonald, who all contributed to the songwriting. Their first single, “Call Me,” is now available on streaming services.
“We all sang on ‘Walk This Road,’ that’s a different kind of track for us to do,” Johnston said in a statement. “I think it’s good to try to do things you haven’t done before, that’s the way it should be.”
McDonald’s time with the group produced hits like “What a Fool Believes” and “Minute by Minute.” Working with Shanks brought new ideas to life. His influence helped blend their signature sound with fresh approaches.
“In my heart, I’ve always been a Doobie Brother. We’ve all remained friends over the years. We’ve all been enjoying it tremendously, even more than we thought we would,” said McDonald.
The new songs blend messages of hope and evolution. The music combines classic Doobies style with modern production.
The Doobie Brothers were recently announced as members of the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction class. Other members of the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction class includes George Clinton, Mike Love, Tony Macaulay, and more.
