Steven Tyler Announces Big Headlining Solo Date
With Aerosmith back in dry dock, frontman Steven Tyler has announced a big solo date for next year.
Tyler and his Loving Mary Band will headline a show on July 11 as part of the Calgary Stampede’s Cowboys Music Festival, continuing to promote his 2016 solo album We’re All Somebody From Somewhere. The festival runs July 8-12 and features primarily country acts.
Tyler has shied away from calling his album strictly country, but he tells us that country and especially Nashville, where it was mostly recorded and written, exerted a great influence on it:
“There’s a route that goes through Nashville called Route 440. That’s what they tune every instrument on the planet to; The note A is 440 cycles. That runs through the town. And I was drawn to Nashville like the star over Bethlehem. I was like, ‘What?! What kind of a place that even exists?!’ It reminds me of early Greenwich Village and Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel…or England in the 60s or San Francisco…I’m feeling the vibe in the 70s, omigod, Janis Joplin and all the great s*** and Haight-Ashbury…the vibe of the gang was so phenomenal, and that’s what I felt in Nashville.”
There’s no word yet on Aerosmith’s future plans; Guitarist Joe Perry will be releasing a new solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto, on January 19.
