‘Springsteen On Broadway’ – What To Expect
Though it’s been in previews for nearly two weeks, Bruce Springsteen‘s “Springsteen On Broadway” officially opened with an invitation-only show on Thursday (October 12) at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
A celebrity-studded audience — including Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Tina Fey, MSNBC’s Brian Williams, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Edward Norton, Jon Stewart, Nathan Lane, producer Jimmy Iovine, longtime E Street Band cohort Steven Van Zandt and former Columbia Records chief Tommy Mottola — turned out for the two-hour show, during which Springsteen played 15 songs on guitar, piano and harmonica, including some duets with his wife and E Street Band mate Patti Scialfa, and read excerpts from his 2016 memoir “Born To Run,” including his tribute to late E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons and thoughts about the current political and social climate in America.
Springsteen shushed those singing along during “Dancing In The Dark,” telling them “I’ll handle this myself,” Springsteen’s Broadway stand is currently scheduled to run through February 3 at the 939-seat theater, where it’s $497 average ticket price has broken the previous record of $272 set by “Hamilton.”
