Paul McCartney Briefly Comments In Concert On Las Vegas Mass Shooting
Paul McCartney wrapped up the latest North American leg of his One On One Tour on Monday night (October 2) in Detroit with a quick homage to the Las Vegas concert shooting tragedy.
Following his opening number, the Beatles‘ “A Hard Day’s Night,” McCartney told the audience at Little Caesars arena that, “On such a terrible day we’re going to celebrate the joy in life.” He followed with Wings’ “Junior’s Farm” and played the rest of his nearly three-hour show without reference to Las Vegas, though the event certainly added resonance to his performances of “We Can Work It Out” and the pairing of “A Day In The Life” — which he routinely introduces as a song that’s “appropriate in today’s world” — and John Lennon‘s “Give Peace A Chance.”
McCartney’s concert comments echoed a social media posting from earlier in the evening, when he wrote that, “Even though this has been a very sad day, we’re going to celebrate the joys of life #OneOnOne.”
McCartney moves on to South America for a five-show run starting October 12 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, ending with an Oct. 24 stop in Mexico City. He’ll finish the year with a seven-show stand Down Under, playing Australia and New Zealand during December.
