Joe Perry Returns Jeff Beck Stratocaster After Canceled Aerosmith Tour
After Aerosmith’s farewell shows got canceled, Joe Perry gave back Jeff Beck’s cherished number three Stratocaster to Beck’s longtime guitar tech. The legendary guitar was meant to make its final appearance during the band’s “Peace Out” tour.
The tour plans fell apart due to Steven Tyler’s vocal injury. Before that happened, Perry had been playing the famous guitar with the Hollywood Vampires.
Perry told MusicRadar, “The whole premise of the Vampires was to pay homage to the guys who had passed on. I think we were going to have it on the road with Aerosmith, but when that [the band’s Peace Out farewell tour] got canceled, I gave it back to Jeff’s guitar tech.”
Beck’s partnership with Fender created some unique guitars. His signature Stratocaster came out in 1991, featuring a chunky ’50s-style neck and four bright Gold Lace Sensors.
Many greats have played this guitar, such as John Mayer and Steve Lukather. Players could choose between fresh Surf Green, rich Midnight Purple, classic Vintage White, or smooth Black colors.
Beck’s love for hot rods influenced his guitar line. His ’32 Ford Deuce Coupe – which appeared in American Graffiti – inspired the Graffiti Yellow color.
While recording 1989’s Guitar Shop, Beck stuck with his Strat Plus. Its Lace Sensor pickups gave him his unique tone.
