Bob Dylan Joins TikTok Days Before Potential Ban
In an unexpected move, Bob Dylan launched a TikTok account on January 15, just days before the app’s looming U.S. shutdown.
His first video features vintage career highlights paired with his most famous songs, including “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” and “Hurricane.”As of publishing, the clip has over 1.1 million views, and the comment section is having a field day about Dylan’s timing on joining TikTok.
One user wrote, “You’ve got 30 minutes, king.” Another user wrote, “In true, Bob fashion, showing up right at the last minute.” One user cleverly wrote, “Bob, TikTok is knocking on heaven’s door.”
Starting Sunday, January 19, TikTok faces a total shutdown under the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. Without ByteDance selling the platform, TikTok must stop U.S. operations.
As the cutoff approaches, ByteDance refuses to sell TikTok. Their decision triggers an automatic ban under laws passed in 2024. The TikTok ban signals a major shift in American tech policy. Government officials point to growing concerns about user data ending up in foreign hands.
If nothing is done before January 19, millions of Americans will then lose access to their TikTok accounts, including their videos and followers.
