Hi there! I hope this message finds you all well and thoroughly enjoying your summer so far. If you haven’t heard me on BEN FM recently, it’s for the best…

Hi there!

I hope this message finds you all well and thoroughly enjoying your summer so far. If you haven’t heard me on BEN FM recently, it’s for the best reason. I’m so happy to announce that 3 weeks ago, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Walter.

Baby Walter is sweet, peaceful (believe it or not), and so incredibly soft. My husband Paul and I, and his 2 year-old sister Trudy are completely enamored with him.

Paul and I had a 5 year fertility struggle while trying to become parents. Trudy was the result of 5 pregnancies and an eventual IVF transfer.

Walter is also an IVF baby, and we will forever be grateful to the doctors and scientists that made our family possible. If you're in need of help growing your family, I highly recommend Penn Fertility Care. They were incredible through every part of this process.

Navigating two small children, double diapers, strollers and a mini van full of car seats has been a joy, and something that we will never take for granted.

Trudy has really taken to her new role as big sister too. She visited us in the hospital each day, assists with his diaper changes, and constantly tells baby Walter he’s beautiful.

Yesterday Trudy cheered baby Walter on at his doctor’s appointment, repeatedly telling him he was ‘doing a great job’. It was very cute. Overall, life is sweet, and these past few weeks have flown by.

Besides having a beautiful, healthy baby, there have been a number of other unexpected highlights too. Typically I work mornings on BEN FM, so the past few weeks I’ve had the rare opportunity to make Mickey Mouse pancakes for Trudy in the mornings and take her to school for the first time ever. It’s been really nice to have some extra special time with her, especially with her little brother recently joining the family.

Trudy insists on walking a toy dog named BINGO to school too, and so that leaves me traveling home with BINGO on the subway after I drop her off. You can catch me on the El each morning...the grown woman on her own, carrying a toy dog.

Having a baby during the Olympics has been really amazing too. Late nights breast feeding have been spent glued to replays of the women’s street skateboarding finals, canoeing, soccer and many other sports (some I didn’t even know existed until a few days ago, but have been moved to tears by the athletes’ performances). What a fun time to be snuggling with a newborn on the couch.

Needless to say, maternity leave and the extra time with my family has been amazing so far. Thanks so much to Philly radio vet Angel Donato who has been amazing filling in on BEN FM during the mornings. She’s fantastic, and I can’t thank her enough. I plan to keep updating this page throughout the leave, and will definitely keep everyone up to date with (probably too many) photos of Walter and his big sister. Please feel free to reach out at any time to Kristen@957benfm.com, and I'll talk to you (over the air) again in the beginning of October.

Have a wonderful summer in the meantime.

Love, Kristen
