Caught on Camera: Jersey Shore Police Officer Saves Unconscious Newborn with CPR
According to the Middle Township Police Department, a Jersey Shore police officer is being called a hero after reviving a newborn baby with CPR in November 2024.
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2024, the police department received an urgent 9-1-1 call from an individual reporting a one-week-old baby was unconscious and not responding.
An officer, identified as Patrolman Chris Rudy, responding to the call discovered the newborn’s mother frantically performing CPR on the infant, who was cold and blue.
A body camera video shared on the police department’s Facebook page shows the officer running out of his vehicle shouting, “Let me see him” before finding the woman with the infant.
In the video, Rudy is seen performing CPR as an ambulance pulls up on the scene. The officer then hands the newborn to the paramedics.
Medics from Atlantic Care continue to perform CPR on the infant before they receive a pulse. The infant was then rushed to Cooper University Hospital in Cape May for treatment.
Dozens of comments on the video post praise Rudy for his heroic act. Some came from individuals who identified themselves as Rudy’s parents, relatives, and friends, a report by CBS News Philadelphia notes.
“Very proud of my SON and the work he does. I’m honored to be your Father. Your GrandFather would be very proud of you!!” one says.
“Proud to know Christopher since HE was a baby. Couldn’t be prouder if he were my own son! All around outstanding man,” another commenter wrote.
The Middle Township Police Department acknowledges Rudy’s and the Atlantic Care staff’s teamwork in coming to the infant’s aid.
