First Winter Storm of 2025 Dumps Multiple Inches Of Snow Across Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware
A strong winter storm hit the Philadelphia area hard on Monday (January 6, 2025) morning. Southern Delaware got the worst of it, with snow reaching 10 inches, while Philadelphia only saw a light coating.
The winter storm moved south of Philadelphia, leaving behind big differences in snowfall. Bridgeville, Delaware ended up with 10 inches. Just north of Philadelphia, people found barely a dusting on their yards.
As the storm rolled in, road crews got busy across three states. The weather forced both Philadelphia public schools and Catholic high schools to close, according to nbcphiladelphia.com.
Winter Storm: Down the Shore
Shore towns in New Jersey got hit hard. Images from shore towns had inches of snow where we usually see sand. Ocean City saw 7.4 inches, Atlantic City got 5.5 inches, and Cape May ended up with 5 inches of snow.
Winter Storm: Delaware
Delaware’s beach areas got slammed with snow. Lewes got 9 inches, and Georgetown saw 9.5 inches. Dover had different totals – 5.6 inches downtown and 5 inches at the Air Force Base.
Winter Storm: City of Philadelphia
Philadelphia lucked out. Downtown got just 1.2 inches, while the International Airport saw 1.8 inches. Nearby Morton and Swarthmore both got 1.4 inches.
Winter Storm: New Jersey
New Jersey’s winter storm snow totals were all over the place. Rio Grande, New Jersey got the most with 7 inches, but Whitehouse Station barely saw any with 0.8 inches. Trenton Mercer Airport measured 1.3 inches. According to 6abc.com, snowplows were even on the Atlantic City boardwalk removing snow from the boards.
Areas north of Philadelphia didn’t get much. Upper Macungie Township saw 2 inches, North Wales got 1.9 inches, and Hellertown ended up with less than an inch.
The winter storm made morning drives slow and dangerous. Many schools decided to open late or stay closed, putting kids’ safety first.
