Oley Fair Tractor Pull

Every country fair needs a tractor pull. Little kids competed, and this fella gave it a try too.

The Oley Fair is happening now through Saturday night and it's got so many things to see and do.

With friendly competition in so many categories, highlighting the talents of so many friends and neighbors in Oley and the surrounding area. We had lots of fun checking out the vast variety of local products from the farm and home that were entered this year. Last year's fair had 6,335 entries! This year had to be close, if not more.

Enjoy rides, activities for kids, entertainment, exhibitors, and of course fair food! Don't miss the livestock section too, complete with a litter of 10 piglets! So cute.

Piglets!!!

IMG_9117.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

This was so cute. Ten piglets in all, hanging with their Mama.

Baby Piglet!

IMG_9148.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

This was definitely the most popular stall. I could have watched the piglets all day.

Cows Up Close

IMG_9133.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

A great way to introduce little ones to all the animals in their books and songs all at once.

Friendly Goats

IMG_9157.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

The animals were there to meet and pet, and a handwashing station right outside for afterward.

Cow Pigs

IMG_9116.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Spotty pigs among the many animals featured and judged in the livestock part of the fair. A bunch of these big pigs had names like Twizzler and Kitkat and Reese.

Fancy Goats

IMG_9122.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Fly goats in bright colors.

Goats Incognito

IMG_9123.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Did anyone see a goat? Not me.

Giant Pumpkins at the Oley Fair

IMG_9087.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

These things were massive. None over 1,000 pounds this year, but still quite a lot of pumpkin pie.

Giant Pumpkin Winner at This Year's Oley Fair

IMG_9089.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Imagine the amount of pumpkin bread and muffins and pie and anything else you could possibly make.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

IMG_9195.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Most creative pumpkin patch you'll see. Some really cute ideas from kids of all ages.

Clever Cater-Pumpkin!

IMG_9194.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Loved this one, and looks pretty easy to recreate.

Gru and the Minions

IMG_9191.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

This was a very creative take on the pumpkin decorating contest.

Alice in Pumpkinland

IMG_9192.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Another great pumpkin decorating contest entry.

Giant Watermelon

IMG_9187.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

How about this one? About 15 of the store bought watermelons combined.

Veggies to Pretty to Eat

IMG_9196.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

The arrangements were gorgeous and so delicious looking.

Garden Goals

IMG_9185.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

It certainly inspires you to grow an even bigger garden next year. So pretty.

Colorful Veggies

IMG_9184.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Every kind of vegetable with the best looking tomatoes and anything you could want to eat.

Actual Bees

IMG_9174.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

There was honey in the judging section, and the source too!

Sticky Situation

IMG_9202.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Things got a little jammed up on these shelves. So many canning and preserving entries.

Apples Galore

IMG_9179.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Every kind of apple. Fall is officially here.

Getting Corny

IMG_9177.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

No idea how they judge ears of corn and bales of hay, but they did!

Floral Arrangements

IMG_9224.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

I haven't seen arrangements like these since this year's Philadelphia Flower Show. Stunning.

Individual Flower Entries

IMG_9227.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

This was a great way to walk through and see which flowers you want to try to grow in your garden. Sometimes the seed packets don't do it justice, and here they all are with their names listed. Really pretty.

Quilt Best In Show

IMG_9211.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

There are so many tiny beautiful details in this. What an amazing job. The photo does not do this quilt justice.

Bowling Pin Decorating Contest

IMG_9169.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

This was a fun one. Lots of creative ideas. My favorites were the turtle and the dragon.

Dragon Bowling Pin

IMG_9171.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

This one was really cool. What a fun project!

Trashy Art

IMG_9198.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

A contest using recycled junk only. How cool is this Eagle!?

Stunning Needlework

IMG_9212.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

I can't even imagine the amount of time this took. Well worth it though. First place!

Knitted Critters

IMG_9203.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

There was a lot of beautiful needlework entered this year. I loved this baby blanket and the detail in all of these animals.

Encanto Mirabel Dress

IMG_9213.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

This Mirabel dress from Disney's Encanto was gorgeous and a very popular entry with the kiddos. It can be reused for Halloween too!

Artwork and Photography

IMG_9220.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

There were a bunch of different photography and artwork categories. It really showed how much talent is in our area. Very fun to look through them all.

Lego Contests

IMG_9201.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

I think a requirement was coming up with a creation that wasn't straight from a kit.

Rock Painting

IMG_9223.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Kids could decorate pumpkins, bowling pins, and even rocks.

Oley Fair Rides

IMG_9111.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Some rides more rickety looking than others. This one seemed safe enough! (All others working fine, just ya know, not for me.)

Practice Milking a Cow

IMG_9092.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

There was a tent just for little kids to practice farm skills. Trudy got a little toy for giving this a try.

Farmer for a Day

IMG_9107.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

If you completed tasks like digging for potatoes and gathering eggs and apples, you get a red ribbon declaring you "Farmer for a Day". Adorable.

Fair Entertainment

IMG_9090.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

Fair entertainment in both meanings of the word 'fair'. Just kidding. This was great, and performed the Eagles Fight Song AND Take Me Out to the Ball Game for the Phillies. A delight.

The Oley Fair is Happening Now!

IMG_9065.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

With everything from livestock to honeybees to tractor pulls and rides. Don't miss it.

Fair Food

IMG_9214.jpgKristen Herrmann for BBGI

So many food options at the fair. I ate a bunch, but somehow didn't take any photos. Too busy chowing down. As you can see, lots of options.
