According to a recent study by the RAND research institute, more than 1 in 5 Iraq veterans suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and major depression, yet less than half of those who suffer have received any treatment. Operation Home and Healing, a new program from the Council for Relationships, focuses on helping veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as their loved ones, to deal with the emotional distress of war and the challenges of returning to civilian and family life. Since October 2008, CFR has been providing specialized counseling and classes in their clinical offices throughout Philadelphia and southern New Jersey. The Council for Relationships would like to expand their reach and services to this important population and is working to raise matching funds for the grant provided.
