“Lower Southampton Celebrates Our Athletes” is the theme of the Lower Southampton Township Independence Day Parade to be held on Friday, July 4th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The public is invited free of charge. The lead sponsor for this year’s parade is the Feasterville Business Association.

According to Bob Di Benedetto and Ed Shannon, both of Feasterville, PA, event chairpersons, “This year’s parade and celebration will be jam packed with everything from three Mummers string bands–South Philadelphia, Uptown and Aqua and the Philadelphia Eagles Pep Band to performances by country singer Jodi King, Mad Dog, the South Philly Vikings, a Mummers brigade band and the Boogie Dogs.

Also there’ll be Dixieland music, jug and pipe bands, local and visiting fire departments, and colorful floats, including the special “Wings of Freedom” float. In addition, the 2014 lineup will feature representatives from Action Karate, Minger & Lee Karate, as well as antique and classic cars, an antique fire engine, antique and classic farm tractors and all-terrain vehicles.

Also parading will be a cordon of government officials plus a host of area groups and organizations including, boys and girls teams from the Lower Southampton Athletic Association, members of the Red Cross, the LuLu Shriners, 56th Striker Brigade, 5th Pennsylvania Regiment, the Lower Southampton Neighborhood Watch, and the Feasterville Business Association with its beautiful Belgium team horse drawn wagon. “We are always looking for more groups and organizations who wish to join the line of march,” note DiBenedetto and Shannon.

One of the highlights on this year’s fun and festivities will be the baby and bicycle competitions. Registration for those events will take place at Wage Electric on Bustleton Pike. Also, there will be special prizes for the best and most colorful floats.

“We additionally are inviting area businesses and private individuals to become sponsors for the parade,” note DiBenedetto and Shannon. Everyone who participates with a sponsorship of $100 or more will receive a certificate of appreciation plus prominent identification in the official parade book which will be given to all spectators. “Without the generosity and support from our wonderful sponsors we would not be able to stage this exciting and entertaining patriotic salute for everyone in the community to enjoy,” comment DiBenedetto and Shannon.

The Lower Southampton July 4th Parade will begin at Second Street and Bustleton Pike and will move north on Route 213 Bridgetown Pike to the Lower Southampton Elementary School and the Lower Southampton grounds. Volunteers are needed to help set up and serve as marshals for the day of the event. Rain date is Saturday, July 5.
