More than 150 players are expected to participate in the “Josias A. Sterling Memorial Apple Pie Sevens,†an inaugural event designed to honor the memory of the late Josias A. Sterling. A member of St. Joe’s Prep Rugby (’08) and Temple University Rugby (’12), Josias tragically lost his life this past July when he was swept up in a riptide off the Ocean City coastline. The purpose of this rugby tournament is to remember Josias while partaking in two of his favorite activities: playing rugby and eating apple pie. After the tournament, friends and family will convene at Tir Na Nog Irish Bar & Grill for a social in Josias’ honor. Tickets will be available at the door for $20.00 a person ($15.00 for students) with the proceeds going to the Josias A. Sterling Memorial Fund, a charitable foundation that has been set up to meet the following two goals: first, to provide funding for a “Learn to Swim†initiative for inner city children. Second, to award scholarship assistance to graduates of St. Joe’s Prep who continue their education at Temple University. For more information on the Josias A.
