This week’s episode features the Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival and Quidditch Tournament, the Manna ‘Run for Your Life 3K’ at West Laurel Hill Cemetery and 10th Annual Mutt Strut to benefit PAWS (the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society).
Once a year, Chestnut Hill is transformed into Hogsmeade and taken over by wizards, witches and muggles alike. Listen as Kristen chats with Martha Sharkey – the Executive Director of Chestnut Hill Business District about the Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival and Quidditch Tournament 2016, going on October 21st and 22nd. Friday, October 21st kicks off the festival with a Harry Potter Conference at Chestnut Hill College, a movie night, Harry Potter Pub Crawl and more. Then Saturday, October 22nd begins with a ride on the Hogwarts Express (SEPTA train) to Chestnut Hill and continues all day with a Quidditch Tournament and Festival featuring all things Harry Potter. Then Marilyn speaks to Deb Cassidy, Sales and Marketing Director at Well Laurel Hill Cemetery and Sue Dougherty, Executive Director of MANNA about the third-annual #Run4UrLife 3K Fun Run and Fall Festival which is set to take place among the beautiful and historic grounds of West Laurel Hill Cemetery on Saturday, October 22nd at 4pm. Marilyn is the Master of Scaremonies! All proceeds from this event will benefit MANNA, a non-profit that prepares and delivers meals free of charge to individuals battling life-threatening illnesses in the Greater Philadelphia area. Guests are encouraged to come in costumes with friends and family. Registration is $35 and includes a #Run4UrLife t‐shirt and admission to the festival. As guests run through the cemetery they will be greeted by “Scare Crews” who will try to hinder their progress with some Halloween tricks and haunts! Then, Melissa Levy – the Executive Director of PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) returns to the show to talk about the 10th Annual PAWS Mutt Strut and Fall Festival on Saturday morning, October 22nd from 9am-2pm. PAWS does incredible work for animals in the area, working to make Philadelphia a no kill city and this Mutt Strut is one of the group’s most crucial fundraisers. Featuring a 3 mile walk, a pet costume contest, agility course, ‘Ask the Vet’, live music, ‘Ask the Trainer’, pet portraits and more – this annual event and fundraiser is not to be missed!
