This week’s episode features fall events at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Brauhaus Schmitz’s 23rd St. Armory Oktoberfest and Cocktails Against Cancer’s Jukebox Boogie fundraiser.
First, Kristen meets with Nick McCallister, Director of Development and Membership at Historic Laurel Hill Cemetery about a number of fall events the cemetery will be hosting during the next month. Join them for their 8th Annual Rest In Peace 5k on October 8th at 5pm. A twilight run through the grounds of the cemetery with costumes encouraged! Marilyn speaks with Beate Schartner, General Manager of Brauhaus Schmitzwho provides a preview of their authentic 23rd Street Armory Oktoberfest, the weekend of October 7-9. General Admission ($45) includes: open seating on imported festival benches, all you can eat traditional Bavarian food concessions, your first liter of beer, a glass 1L mass stein to take home, plus entertainment. Then, Kristen meets Sharon Sulecki, Founder and President of Cocktails Against Cancer. A truly inspiring woman, Sharon witnessed her mother’s 4-time battle with cancer and said enough is enough. She was determined to help in some way and found a way to make a real difference by raising awareness and donating to local charities fighting the war on cancer. This year, Cocktails Against Cancer is hosting their 9th Annual event to benefit four amazing local cancer fighting organizations, and the party has a theme: Jukebox Boogie. 1950’s attire is optional, fun is not. Step back in time and dance the night away from 7-11pm at the Ethical Society in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. Tickets and more info can be found HERE.
