Bartram’s Garden Ice Cream Social, South Philly SausageFest, Mushroom Festival and 2016 National Police Dog Trials
On this week’s episode, the Bartram’s Garden Buzzed Ice Cream Social, the 2nd Annual South Philly SausageFest, the 31st Annual Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, and the 2016 National Police Dog Trials in Gloucester Township.
To kick off the episode, Kristen speaks with Aseel Rasheed – the manager of the Welcome Center at Bartram’s Garden about their Buzzed Ice Cream Social at HoneyFest. On Sunday afternoon (9/11), from 3-5pm after HoneyFest, enjoy a specially crafted flavor of Little Baby’s Ice Cream, Art in the Age cocktails (including boozy ice cream floats), historic lawn games, authentic period dancing, and yes – the beautiful historic gardens! Then, we move on to South Philly’s SausageFest, going on Saturday, September 10th from 12-8pm. Kristen chats with Levana Layendecker – the Secretary for the Newbold Community Development Corporation about this all-day beer, music, and food festival which helps to support the CDC’s Street Cleaning Program, which provides employment for 10 disabled Philadelphia residents. Mushroom Festival organizers and all-around FUN GUYS (well, fun ladies) Carla Lucas and Kathi Lafferty join Kristen in studio to give all of the details on the 31st Annual Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, September 9-11th. Don’t miss out, as Kennett Square, the Mushroom Capitol of the World – hosts a weekend full of carnival games, cars, dining, dancing, cooking, eating, and all things MUSHROOM! Some highlights of the event include the National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship, the Mushroom Run and Fun Gus Walk, the Soup and Wine Event, Grower’s Exhibit and so much more. Last, but certainly not least, Kristen speaks with Mayor Dave Mayer of Gloucester Township and K-9 Officer Chris Gerace who is the National Chairman of the 2016 United States Police Canine Association National Police Dog Trials – which is a large scale event happening in Gloucester Township September 25-30th which will be bringing in over 150 police K-9 teams from all over the country, as well as some from Canada and Mexico. The public is welcome to observe the trials all week long, with one of the highlights being a public demonstration on September 29th at the Timber Creek High School. The demonstration begins around 4:30pm, is free to the public, and food will be provided. Find all of the details HERE.
