West Laurel Hill’s Kentucky Derby Party, a General Hospital Fan Event for a Cause, the South Street Spring Festival, Dr. Katz: LIVE to Benefit Artwell, Sharon Martin from Oxygen’s Snapped, and Philly Loves PAWS Day

1.) Deborah Cassidy – Director of Sales, Marketing and Family Services for West Laurel Hill and Priyanka Setty – Marketing Assistant and Program Coordinator for West Laurel Hill return to Ben Around Philly to talk about this year’s West Laurel Hill Kentucky Derby Party. This fun spring event features live music, a fashion contest, traditional derby fare, horse and carriage rides, and of course mint juleps! Proceeds for this event go toward Hope Springs Equestrian Therapy, an incredible organization helping to enhance the quality of life of individuals with cognitive, physical, emotional or behavioral disabilities by providing them with affordable therapeutic horseback riding. 2.) Just in time for Mother’s Day and World Ovarian Cancer Day, General Hospital actors Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon Quartermaine), Donnell Turner (Curtis Ashford), William deVry (Julian Jerome), and Maura West (Ava Jerome) are coming to Philadelphia for a fan event to benefit the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation. Robin Cohen, Co-Founder of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation joins Kristen in studio to give some background on the organization and provide all of the details for this unique fundraising event. The fan event takes place Saturday, May 6th at Helium Comedy Club and will offer meet and greet, autograph and photo opportunities. Find more information and buy tickets HERE.

3.) Assistant Director at South Street Headhouse District, Bill Arrowood returns to BEN Around Philly to talk about this year’s South Street Spring Festival and all that it has to offer. South Street kicks off Philly’s summer festival season with a totally free, all day, all ages celebration of the city’s best sights, sounds, tastes and sips on Saturday, May 6th from 11am -8pm. Festivities will take over South Street from 8th to Front Streets and will feature over 30 bands, 125+ boutiques and businesses, free comics, Philly’s largest Maypole and dozens of artists selling handmade wares. 4.) Kristen had the opportunity to speak with the Founder and Executive Director of Artwell – Susan Teagan, as well as Rae Pagliarulo, the organization’s Development Manager. Artwell is an amazing organization in Philadelphia, helping to bring art to young people in the communities that need it most. Join them Sunday, May 7th at Punchline Philly for a fundraiser to benefit Artwell, starring Dr. Katz LIVE and guests.  Dr. Katz, well known from Comedy Central’s Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist and Punchline Philly will be donating all proceeds from the show to Artwell. 5.) Kristen is a huge fan of true crime shows, and had a chance to speak with Sharon Martin, the co-executive producer and narrator for the Oxygen show Snapped. Hear Sharon touch on the allure of true crime shows and talk a bit about Snapped’s special 2 hour season premiere kicking off the show’s brand new ‘killer’ 20th season on Oxygen – Sunday, May 7th at 6pm. The season premiere will deviate from the show’s usual female killers for a special 2 hour look into the Scott Peterson case. Kristen saw a sneak peak of the episode and gives it two thumbs way up. 6.) Kristen’s dog and BEN-FM’s Morning Show Co-Host – Gloria is a graduate (adoptee) of Philly PAWS, and Wednesday, May 17th is Philly Loves PAWS Day! PAWS – The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society just celebrated their 10th Anniversary of saving the lives of animals in Philadelphia and they’re closer than ever to their ultimate goal – Philadelphia becoming a no-kill city. Hundreds of organizations and businesses in Philly are big fans and supporters of PAWS and over 100 organizations are coming together – on one day – to donate a portion of their proceeds to this incredible cause.
