Thousands of runners converged at Philadelphia's Navy Yard on Sunday, May 3, to participate in the 47th Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run. The 10-mile race runs through the city from Central High School to the Navy Yard.
Approximately 40,000 participants took part in the race. Whether they pursued personal bests or ran for personal enjoyment, runners and volunteers alike found community and connection on race day.
"Amazing race [and] amazing people," said Matthew Todd of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, in a statement shared with CBS News Philadelphia. "Philly vibes all the way. Every human being has a story about themselves; sometimes it's negative. Every time we run, I get to burn a page in that book and know that I am special and can do hard things."
