Ocean City has announced it will host a patriotic series of drone shows titled “America 250: Lights Over Ocean City” to celebrate America's 250th anniversary this summer.

Each 15-minute display will run after dusk on seven Monday evenings, July 6 through Aug. 17, along the beach and Boardwalk south of Sixth Street. The weekly shows will feature hundreds of drones performing animations to salute the United States, delivering a prime viewing experience with guaranteed visibility from every point along the Boardwalk.

“We have been working with the city administration on this show for some time now,” Boardwalk Merchants Association President Wes Kazmarck said in a statement shared with OCNJDaily.com. “We're grateful that we could pull it off, and we're excited for the shows this summer. There won't be a bad seat in the house.”

Funding comes from a $25,000 grant from the Cape May County Board of Commissioners. Additional support will be provided from Boardwalk merchants and city funding. County commissioners are also offering matching grants to other towns for 250th anniversary celebrations.

Support from local officials and business leaders includes Mayor Jay Gillian and Wes Kazmarck, president of the Boardwalk Merchants Association. They point to the “America 250: Lights Over Ocean City” drone shows as an example of the strong collaboration among the city, merchants, and the county for the community's benefit.
