Philadelphia Eagles superstar and Super Bowl–winning quarterback Jalen Hurts is adding a new title to his resume: children’s book author. Hurts appeared on Good Morning America to introduce his debut book, Better Than a Touchdown, a story centered on perseverance, friendship, and the belief that each child holds the potential to become something great.
During an interview on GMA, Hurts reflected on the childhood moment that first inspired him to write a book. He recalled wandering through a Scholastic book fair as a kid, stumbling upon a title called My Brother’s Side — a story featuring two young Black football players. The cover resonated with him instantly. Only later did he discover that the authors were NFL athletes Tiki and Ronde Barber, a revelation that stuck with him. Saying he knew them as authors before he knew them as football players, explaining how powerful representation had been for him at a young age.
That inspiration eventually grew into a desire to create something meaningful for kids today. Through his own philanthropic work and foundation, Hurts found the right moment and message to share. The book follows a child chasing a passion, supported by the wisdom and encouragement of those around him — a reflection of Hurts’ own experiences.
Hurts also shared a powerful metaphor that helped shape the book’s theme: an acorn already contains everything it needs to become an oak tree. With the right environment, nourishment, and belief, it reaches its full potential. “That’s exactly what we are as people,” he said, describing the message he hopes young readers carry with them.
As part of the segment, Hurts answered questions directly from young fans. When asked what he does for fun outside of football, Hurts admitted he spends most of his time with family or preparing for the next season, with a strong preference for warm-weather getaways after enduring Philly’s winter storms. Another young fan asked if he had ever wanted to quit. Hurts didn’t shy away from the honesty: yes, he had. He recalled a difficult stretch in college when doubt and adversity hit hard. But passion, resilience, and courage pushed him forward — lessons woven throughout the book.
Looking ahead to his seventh NFL season, Hurts shared that his goals now extend beyond the field. He hopes to build a legacy rooted in impact — whether through football, storytelling, or empowering young people. Championships remain on his radar, but so does helping future generations find confidence in their own path.
Better Than a Touchdown arrives in bookstores nationwide on March 10, 2026, offering families a new source of inspiration straight from one of Philadelphia’s most influential athletes.
