Two restaurants in the Haverford Township area are offering free food to families affected by uncertainty about Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits due to the lingering federal government shutdown.
HaveABURGER in Havertown is giving away one free Jr. Burger Meal for kids when a parent or guardian presents their EBT card. The promotion is in-store only and not valid for online orders. HaveABURGER is at 1002 Darby Road in Havertown.
"No questions, no judgment. We just want to make sure kids in our neighborhood are fed and supported during this time," owner Leo Osmanollaj said on social media, according to a Patch of Haverford-Havertown report. "We care about this community, and we're here to help in any way we can."
Original Eagle Pizza in Ardmore is offering one free small cheese pizza Monday through Friday to customers who present an identification card and an EBT card, with no questions asked. The pizza establishment is at 2343 Haverford Road in Ardmore.
Approximately one in eight Americans uses SNAP to purchase groceries, according to the Patch report.
