The 22nd annual Delaware Down Syndrome Walk & 5K is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, at Glasgow Park in Newark. Hosted by the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware (DSADE), the event will mark its first year at this new location.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning with a Team Captain Set-Up Party at 8:30 a.m., followed by a timed 5K run starting at 10 a.m. and a 0.2-mile Awareness Loop at 11:30 a.m. It will conclude with a ceremony and awards presentation at 11 a.m. Additional activities include a Family Fun Day featuring inflatables, music, face painting, food vendors, and a photo booth.

According to Newsbreak, the Delaware Down Syndrome Walk & 5K is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants from across the region.

Registration costs are $5 for children, $15 for adults, $30 for 5K runners, and free for individuals with Down Syndrome. Donations are encouraged via an online pledge platform. The 2025 fundraising goal is $100,000, which will support the organization's advocacy and programming for nearly 600 Delaware families.

“Every step taken at this event brings us closer to a more inclusive and supportive Delaware,” said Tara Lennon, DSADE event coordinator, in a statement. “It's a day for families, friends, and the community to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome and the unique contributions they bring to our world.”
